Bompy, Experience vs. Enthusiasm, Late Christmas Lunch, Bunco

A friend called me two days ago to say my favorite cat in all the world, Bompy, died.

I don't know why I love him so. I'd only met him twice, but he was so compelling I basically ignored everyone else at a dinner party to follow him wherever he went. Yes, I'm nuts. Was this ever in question?

Here's to Bompy! I hope he's having a great time in Cat Heaven.

On another note, have you ever given someone yards and yards of advice whenever they asked for it based on let's say 20 years' of work experience (and you are well-respected in your field), searched out answers for them, knocked yourself out, got advice from others in your area of expertise if you personally didn't have the answer, and then after months of involving yourself in your friend's project, someone new comes along with absolutely no knowledge of the subject, tells your friend "do this/do that," questions the value of your 20 years' experience, and your friend ignores every piece of advice you've put forth based on KNOWLEDGE and does a 180 to follow the new, totally inexperienced person's advice as if they "know"? (Yes, that was a very very long sentence...) That's never happened to you? Trust me. It's super-upsetting.

I'm going to this season's final Christmas event today. Another lunch. I'm so tired of eating. And in this area, you basically have two menu choices: Italian and Chinese. How many more Chicken Francaises can I eat--or Penne Vodka? Who wants more General Tsao's Chicken--or for that matter, those funny crispy noodles served at the Chinese restaurant with two little bowls of mustard and sweet orange sauces?

MSN has a bunco game going 24/7. If you can't find me, I'll be over there. I'm hooked.

My friends and family say I'm nutso about The Cat (mine). I probably am and I don't care what they think. Except the kids did tell me once that they thought I loved The Cat more than them ... it might have been true at the time ... they could be quite the little hellions.

Second topic ... absolutely have had that done to me. And it happened while I was working. The Big Boss asked me to help him because my partner was on vacation and I agreed. I did all the work and then when my partner came back from vacation, the Big Boss asked HIM the same thing he asked ME (get it? I'm female???) and when HE gave the answers (the same as mine), The Big Boss said, "Oh, I knew YOU'D have the right answer." I mean, come on people...

I would never complain about Chinese food. I would eat it every day, every meal, for the rest of my life and be totally happy.

I have no idea what Bunco is ... and it sounds like that might be a good thing.

Loving a cat more than your own cat or some of your own humans - you say that like it's a bad thing...I certainly like some of my friends more than some relatives.

Heck, I always like other cats more than my own (why do my cats have to pee and ruin the new basement floor? why do they have to scratch and bite me? why do they be so weird and rude?)

Second topic, yes...well, I don't have the extensive professional knowledge you do (and when I asked you for advice, I planned to follow it until I got sidetracked by goofing off and eating pudding); I have my miniature shrunken areas of stuff I know (I love to travel and do research) so when someone asks me about the best whatever to get to Spain, or what castle to visit in France, I'm reluctant to tell them because I know they don't really want to know...I think they're just asking for making conversation...

I also love Chinese food, okay...any food right now works for me. Especially Taco Bell (everyone keep those comments to themsleves, I've heard them all, and yes the baby needs the mystery meat) and currently am eating spicy food all the time...Hot and sour soup and spicy green or red chicken curry...oh man, now I have to go eat!

And I hate myself for making this comment go on forever and be about me, like what I always do! (Tanya hanging her head in shame)

Sorry for the kitty loss!

I have no area of expertise but have given my kids advice based on 40 some years of experience, and you can guess how that goes. Sorry this has happened to you.

Christmas lunch? OK I dont get it. Here in the South pretty much christmas has been over for weeks now. BUT I am all for eating out!! Love to eat out anywhere anyhow. Not anytime though, I am an early bird :)

Bunco I wanna play!! Gonna go look for this.

The Cat is worthy of your great love, Java; I have no doubt. Topic 2: Doesn't feel good, does it? This is pathetic but I cried on and off for hours when this happened yesterday. Topic 3: I'm still of the mind that who knows what that is in the fried rice--might be chicken, might be something that barks. Topic 4: Bunco is a card game you need 12 people for. You keep changing seats and are in competition with everyone as you roll dice. Each round you need to get a specied roll. Round 1? Ones. Round 2? Twos. etc. It's waaaay too addictive and I may have to put up parental controls for myself to keep me out of there! :)

Tanya, Bompy was the best cat ever. I lusted for Bompy. I wanted him for my own. If his owners would only have gone away every once in a while I could have kittynapped him--but no, they are homebodies. Drat! Topic 2: You're never going to write that book by eating pudding. Of course you could always write a book ABOUT pudding. hmmm. I'd buy it! Topic 3: The baby does not need mystery meat. However when baby visits us later this year, F&J will share their chicken liver Fancy Feast with the child. It's only right! Topic 4: you can talk about yourself anytime you want. But once you reach the 200-word mark I charge $10.00 for each additional grouping of 100 words.

Thanks, Mel. Bompy was the best (don't really understand his name though...). Johnny is similar: Big-hearted and lovable. Topic 2: People don't listen. And that's fine as long as I haven't invested hours and hours of my time and expertise. Then I get upset for having my time wasted. Topic 3: I've celebrated Christmas through the 1st week in March a couple of times. No more tree, no more lights, but lots of lunches and sharing of presents. It's exhausting; trust me. As for Bunco,
go to games.msn.com. Under "new games" choose the + sign and the purple box on the left in the new row that shows up is it. Not easy to see, but you're smart--you can handle it! :)

Tina, why? Is Christmas over or something? :)

Aw I'm sorry to hear about bompy. :( Animals are easy to get attached to.

As for your second topic- yes I've had that happen quite often. My sister used to do that to me, ask for advice ask for advice and then not take it because someone else that didn't really even know her or her situation would suggest something.

My husband kind of does that sometimes. He'll be complaining about something and I'll make a suggestion and he won't do whatever it was that I suggested. Then a while later maybe he'll be talking with one of his "guy" friends and they'll pretty much suggest the same thing as me, and next thing I know Chris will be say well "bob" said I should ... and I'll be like I told you that two weeks ago!!! LOL

Last one ... I don't know, those food items sound pretty good to me. :) Are they free or are you paying for the meal each time?

Hey! I'm having my first ever blog party! I want the blog party queen to come! Tricia's Musings is ONE YEAR old today! Come and visit. Have some champagne, have a soak in the hot tub, dance on the ice bar.

Everyone's welcome!

I forgot to say that the name Bompy is truly excellent, not just for a cat, but maybe for a new baby? (our cats have never had real names, being Baby Girl and Baby Boy for twelve years).

I hope you find yourself another Bompy sometime.

Thanks for understanding Tricia. I was so bummed out, but apparently the "everyone else's opinion" thing is quite a popular theme in people's lives. I'll stop by your blog in a bit. Party!

Mel, it's fun isn't it. I hate that so much! Ha! Thank God it's not for money or I'd be in big trouble!

Teresa, you have! General Tsao's chicken is in every almost Chinese restaurant I've been to on the East Coast. I hope you've been well. Quiet...

Tanya, you're going to name the baby Bompy?? Well, in that case you might want to consider "Kitty" or "Baby Girl Baby" or "Baby Boy Baby." Or how about "Whiskers" or "Tabby"? :)

Don't do it Teresa! Bunco will take you prisoner! Just ask Mel.
