My Eggnog Obsession

I am eggnog-obsessed. But finding a really good eggnog recipe is not always an easy endeavor.

When the Christmas holidays roll around, I love to go on a search for the best eggnog around to serve to guests and to myself. Yum. Double and triple yum.

Can you help me find the best eggnog by answering the following questions?

a. Do you love or hate eggnog? Or somewhere inbetween?
b. Do you make your own eggnog? Yes or no.
c. My favorite brand of eggnog available at the supermarket is __________________.
d. Do you have an eggnog recipe? Yes or no. And if you DO, please tell me what it is. Or else.

Please put your answers in the comments section, and be sure to include eggnog recipes. Because eggnog drinking is a very very very important thing. It is. No, really, it is.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, eggnog.

my favorite brand is from Wawa (the convenience store in the Philly area).

I try to only drink it during the holiday season since it's so high in calories and I would honestly get sick of it if I drank too much.

Sometimes it's good if you mixed it with a little milk so it's not so thick.

I've never had egg nog. If I were to fry it, it would be scrabbled eggs. So basically I'm drinking raw scrambled eggs? That kinda grosses me out.

Ah, eggnog... MeL and Mr. Fab I'm so sorry you do not delight in the fabulousness of this great drink.

Teri, isn't it great? Have you tried Axelrod's (or Axlerod's)? Excellent store-bought variety. I think it might be in your area.

Teena, I never quite thought of it as scrambled eggs. I think the store-bought varieties don't have real eggs in them--I have to go check.

mixednut, you get a demerit. Everyone knows eggnog is yummy...

I'm with you on this Teri.
I must say though, I'm glad it's only on the supermarket shelves for a few months. I'd gain lbs. and lbs. drinking it every other day. It's that good to me!

Dump enough brandy in it and I might be able to choke it down.

1. Yes.

2. No, I modify it after I get it.

3. Haven't found one that is completely worthy of my endorsement :)

4. I like eggnog with orange juice, it sounds weird but tastes good. Its kind of like a Christmasy Orange Julius.

sushiboy, how are you? Everything go okay? ... Eggnog with orange juice, I'll have to try that! Could be good--but it's mixing acid with cream. I'm not sure yet.

mixednut. I've got the wrong restaurant in mind--I'm not familiar with Route 3. I was thinking of an Italian restaurant at the far southern end of Teterboro Airport on a road that runs perpendicular to Rte 17 (I forget its name). Glad you had a good time. When you're in a restaurant try to tone down yelling at the TV screen when sports are played. :)

Zed, I'm fine really, thank you for asking. I didn't think that it sounded very good the first time I heard of it, I had to try it to have my mind changed. I know it sounds tremendously weird to mix the two, but the flavors meld quite well. It does take a bit of practice to get the amounts just right. I use 1 part orange juice, 2 parts Nog and I have seen many variations. Its all according to your taste. Though chances are, if you like Orange Julius (sp?) you will like the nog and orange juice.

Chai Tea is da bomb.

But I like egg nog.

And I want to try the orange juice thing.

Sometimes I have it with 7up to make it not so thick.

Fancy Zed-- I will cover thine ears from such slanderous chatter.

Chai Tea, just a tea?

Never!

You haven't been to heaven until you have done this

Go to your nearby Caribou Coffee
Request a Chai Tea Latte with Soy

Sit back and let the butterflies and flowers dance in your brain while you lose yourself in the scent of the spices and rich flavor of Chai.

Doctor Mom,
Thanks for your suggestion re chai tea. I am going to follow it very soon. Sounds yummy! (But I'm not sure we have Caribou Coffee around here--I have to check it out.)

Thanks again.

I like egg nog. Not spiked.

I don't make my own.

I buy a quart carton of Dean's.

Sometimes I get the half carton, but some always seems to get left.

I have a recipe. It is in the All New Joy of Cooking. Since I don't have the book with me, I recommend you visit your library.

I don't drink mine spiked either. Plain is bad enough. Or good enough, depending how you look at it.
