Zed Is NOT Dead, Despite Rumors to the Contrary

Wow, I missed you guys. And I'm exhausted. I walked on land, I walked on water (as usual), I walked on doo-doo in the road. Okay, the truth is that in the last few months, I didn't really walk much further than around local running tracks, in shopping malls, and on the beach in Florida in late March/early April. But what IS true is I missed you guys big time. And so I'm returning to blogging.

Here's the problem: I know most people can put a blog article together in 5 minutes and post it. But I'm an editor, and it's impossible not to edit, and edit, and edit my own stuff ad infinitum. It's obsessive compulsive. Not that all that editing makes what I write any better than anyone else's blog junk, it's just edited better. :) So, it doesn't take me 5 minutes to post--it takes me an hour to approve my own work, or more. And if, God forbid, the post contains illustrations, I need another hour or two to research photos on the subject.

It's not my fault, it's my career's fault. It's the fault of a picky editor-in-chief named Murray from many moons ago who insisted I was wrong in using the phrase "a room with many cabinets" in my monthly column in a housing/decorating magazine. He said, "You need to write 'a cabineted room.' " So I changed the wording to make Murray happy. Two months later when writing about another new residence somewhere in Southern California, Murray told me I was wrong in writing "cabineted room" and that I should write "a room with many cabinets." These sorts of things play with your head and traumatize you far into your adult years if you let them. In fact, if I see many cabinets at your place when I visit, I'm not even going to mention them to you. :)

Anyway, after the Murray fiasco, I decided I didn't want to write much any longer--I'd far rather edit. And I'm most brutal with my own writing. So blogging takes me lots and lots of time. I think I'll be a whole lot less "perfect" now and if you see an error just think "that idiot" to yourselves and move on. Just the way you always did anyway.

P.S. Many thanks to Jen of Casual Slack for finding my super-secret "you can die if you email me here" email address and for nudging me to get back to blogging. A little guilt goes a long way with me.

P.S.S.
The Hispanic spammer made a couple of visits in my absence, I see. I sort of like him. Though I have no idea what he's saying regarding Elvis (nor do I care), he's most agreeable, and his renditions of "Guantanamera" and "El Condor Pasa" are impeccable. Yo amo Senor Spammer! (Psst, how does one make a spammer go away?)

Zed, I'm so happy you're back! I'm any day away now from birthing the 'bowling ball - tapeworm - watermelon' that is Alexander.

Also, most people that read these blogs are mental defectives, drooling all over their keyboards so do you really think they're expecting perfection? Good enough is good enough.

Murray is a jerk.

Tanya, I'm glad I made it back in time to be around for Alexander's birth! If I can prove to you that I'm not a mental defective, can I still babysit? :) Murray was indeed a jerk--and a moron too. Whoever heard of the word "cabineted"? Missed you lots!

MixedNut, I am so proud of your new website. I KNEW you could do it (took forever, but... better late than never). Yea you!

Welcome Back Fancy Zed!

Life gets complicated and I have found that the world of bloggers is very welcoming when you return, no matter the reason for your absence!

Glad to see you're alive and doing well

Hi Nobody, How are you? I love the TM after your name! I missed everyone so much, and Jen is sooooo good at guilt using very few words (just kidding, Jen) that immediately started up the blog again. I hope you are feeling well and haven't had too many physical problems in my absence?

Doctor Mom, I'm so glad to see you back as well! I see I lost my residence on your website (the blogroll as well as my beautiful 10-room home on the Cul-de-Sac), but that's okay. I will work my way back into your favor! :) I hope that life going well for you!

Welcome home from your walk of ages Zed! I'm incessantly editing myself too. Most people don't believe it given all the garbage that comes out of me but yep, there's a lot worse in my head, haha.

I'll expect snowflake patterns and much much more now.

Since the Cul-de-Sac moved, we're not doing the real estate giveaways anymore.

But... we're doing some other completely senseless stuff... still have the Idiot of the Week.

Stop by when you're in the neighborhood!

Dale, "... there's a lot worse in my head" ... Tell me about it, I'm the same way. I hope against hope that no one ever forces me to do a stream-of-consciousness post. It wouldn't be a pretty thing. It would be a "huh?" thing.

Doctor Mom, I'm not so concerned that my property in Cul de Sac doesn't appear on your site. I'm more worried that you've evicted me from my house on lot #7 and I'm now homeless. Is Mr. Fabulous without a home as well now? Poor man!

Actually Zed, my medical problems have continued, but we now have them sorted out and I'm not going to die (yet).

That's good news, Nobody. We want you around for a long, long time--and in good health along the way. Die? You? Not anytime soon.

I'm heading to your blog and archives tomorrow to see what's going on with you. Have a good night, and please explain to me some day why there's a TM (trademark) symbol after your name, okay? I don't get it.

Sushiboy! I was just at your site and was going to go back to comment when I checked out responses here--and bada-boom, there you are! Great to see you. I missed you.

Your Utah post was beautiful and didn't kill the blog! You did a great job, and I might even make you write another post some day soon. :)

Thanks for faithfully checking back for my return. You're a wonderful friend!

Dick, Thank you for your kind words--I'm so glad to see you here on my site. I missed you and your humor, and feel more than ever that I have found some really wonderful blog friends. It's sort of like one big happy family.

Chris, I so appreciate the concern that was expressed in your blog post about my disappearance. That got to me altogether... You're a good man and definitely were missed. I like the party idea, even if I have to throw one myself--which is a strong possibility. :) Did I mention I missed you?

Teri sis, I left at a terrible time--just when your home purchase fell through and your life was upside down. I'm so sorry about that. I hope things are working out better for you and I'm going to go to your blog archives to see what's been happening. I missed you much, and yes, we should meet in Atlantic City (or some such place) soon. Right now, I'm overwhelmed with work & stuff (which is why I stopped blogging), but maybe early next month? I'm not sure, but we can work on it.

I'm so glad I'm back!

Teri,
It did? I don't know why that happened unless I have too much unopened mail in my zed hotmail account (which I haven;t checked in 4 months). Sorry about that...

Question: If you were to draw a straight line across a map from your home to the Jersey shore, what town would it hit? Just checking to see if we can meet someplace closer than AC...

I'm not really buying it either, Dick. :)

Zed, it probably would be AC. It's about 40 miles from my house straight down Route 30

Jun 6, 2007, 3:02:00 PM
Blogger Zed said...

Teri,
Okay, but from where I live, AC's about 2 hours 40 minutes away compared to AC being about 40 minutes away from you. Can we do something a bit more north of you to level the playing field?

You know what? I'll go look at a map and check it out. I'll get back to you.

Teri, I checked several maps and it will take me 90 minutes to get to the Brick/Point Pleasant area. I'm hoping it will take you approx. 1 hour. So I'll still have further to go, but it's not so bad.

Think it over and we can narrow down where to meet. If you think it's too far to go, let me know that too.

Nope, no one is homeless in Cul-de-Sac, in fact all regular guests end up on the Blogroll and I'm trying to figure out something else that will make people feel more at home also.

So...your home is still there Lot #7 on Old Wisteria Lane!

Thanks Doctor Mom. I'm relieved to know my 10-room fully-furnished, plush-carpeted, highly electronic split ranch is safe and sound. ... So all that past participation on your site doesn't count at all toward a position on your blogroll? :(

A big hug to you, Sans. I missed you a lot. You're always so kind and helpful to everyone, and you have a huge heart. I may be posting less these days, but I'll do what I can until things quiet down in this neck of the woods (er, city). Meantime, I'm so happy to be back among friends. I'm dancin', yeah ...

IT is a civil war, that between the writer and the editor. They have fought pitched battles over my body and soul, leaving me a bloodied, crumpled wreck. In the end, the writer won and the editor was slaughtered, a spike in the heart was the only thing that would do it. I'm much happier now, although prone to missed words ant ypos....

PS I'm glad I found this blog on Espanya's. I will return
