Wednesday is Canada Day!

Wednesday is Canada Day here on The World According to Zed! We're holding a party for that great country!

Now, I know what you're thinking . . . What does Canada stand for? Aren't they just like Americans, except they call themselves Canadians?? You might ask yourself, do they have cultural preferences, or songs, or food, or anything that makes one think "Canada--now that's a NATION!"

Most people get hung up on those questions, but NOT YOU! You can think of something exciting to say about the nation that is just north of the United States that has a stadium in Toronto whose roof opens pneumatically, has moose and bears, and has a cathedral in Montreal with 6 billion steps that people climb up on their knees. You've been there--I know it. WE ALL BEEN THERE!

You've got two days to figure out what you're bringing to the Canada Day Party. A few minutes' homework, people. Don't let the Canucks down! They're counting on you to help make this party great! We owe them--they've never invaded us!

Uh Zed ... are you sure you want to hold a party for Canada?

We have invaded your country, and in fact we are the only country to have burned down the White House.

Well ok ... that was the war of 1812, and Canada didn't become Canada until 1867, but that's just a technicality. LOL

Oh yeah - you (and a number of others that hang out here and over at Doc Moms and Fabs) have made my blogroll on both Tricia's Musings and Odd Planet.

Take that as a peace offering for what my ancestors did?

Back on topic ... so you want us to bring something Canadian?

Ok, I'm bringing me- and my hubby ... maybe the only canucks at the party. LOL and ...
maple syrup, maple sugar candies, beaver tails, poutine, tourtiere (no that's not Torture Fab) it's meat pie, a hockey stick and a basket ball, an ancient telephone, a television and a replica of the Canada Arm.

I'll see if I can bring some musical entertainment too. How about The Barenaked ladies? Rush? Tragically Hip? the guess who? Nickleback and Sarah McLachlan.

I might be able to round up some actors too:
kiefer Sutherland and maybe his father Donald, Kenue Reeves and Mike Myers, Jim Carey, Pamela Anderson, Kim Cattral, Margot kidder, and Catherine O'hara.

Hows that for a start?

I'll come dressed up as Fat B, the excellent Mike Myers interpretation of the typical Scottish male. I'll also bring a bathtub of baked beans to rub myself with, "I'm sooo sexxy...."
"geeza kiss Tricia" Yum, Yum...

Oh, and Black Velvet to drink.

Oh I'm so bad at American history. (Not yet) Canada invaded the U.S. during the War of 1812? Well, I may just have to cancel the Canada Day party...
NO WAY! We're willing to forgive and forget as long as you continue to let us get good photo ops from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

IS THIS HEAVEN? Rush (the greatest band EVER. and Moosehead, they stopped selling it here 6 years ago...GRRR!!)

I live in the wrong place...
NO Dr Pepper
No Reeces pieces
NO Chance of seeing Rush perform live
NO Oreos variety (just plain and choc)
NO moosehead (but I do have a Moosehead belt buckle (that sounded so trailer park, didnt it?))

Sigh **has another drink***

Scarlet if you come to Toronto we can show you where the guys from Rush live ... well at least Getty Lee's house. We've bumped into him and his little dog in the liquor store too.

Steven Page lead singer from the Bare Naked ladies shops in one of the grocery stores that we go to often.

Baked beans Sans? That might be the end of the party!

Jane Celine is too busy in Las Vegas singing and planning to jolt that frozen embroyo that she saved to life again.

I'll bring some Alexander Keith's beer too, that's become pretty popular here. Maybe some kokanee beer from British Columbia too.

Oh and we can't forget the Crown Royal!

If you ever, EVER run into Geddy Lee again please, please, please, please, please, please get an autograph. (you have no idea how i love that band). Oh and tell him they HAVE to tour Australia!!!!

Alright Scarlet we'll try to do that for you.

And yes Fab it was the British that Invaded the US but it was the British loyalists that had settled in the country soon to become known as CANADA. We also battled for New Orleans, and parts of New York State, and I think a few bits and pieces here and there.

There is still an ongoing battle over an island on the east coast that is currently thought of as Canadian but the Americans keep invading it. I think a similar battle is going on on the west coast too .. an island that is currently American that we claim should be ours.

Ok the visual verification is missing ... is this a joke on the lone Canadian or what?

still missing ...

and third time it's finally there.
